2 days away, need to come up with a plan or at least someone give Ed V a redbull and a phone and let the entertainment begin.

Tom Bidrowski, Kansas Department of Wildlife, Parks and Tourism (KDWPT) migratory game bird program manager, will detail a sharp rise in complaints from resident hunters about competition from nonresident hunters at places like Cheyenne Bottoms Wildlife Area.

Unlike with upland birds and big game, most Kansans rely heavily on public areas to hunt ducks and geese. Bidrowski will present his research as to how other states handle the issue, such as states that limit the number of non-resident waterfowl licenses sold and/or restrict out-of-state hunters to a limited number of hunting days.

Other items to be discussed by commissioners include:

    Migratory bird seasons

    • Bidrowski will present the framework for the 2021-22 Kansas waterfowl seasons. Proposed season dates, limits and management unit boundaries closely resemble Kansas’ 2020-21 waterfowl seasons. This topic will again be discussed during the Commission’s April 29 public meeting, followed by a final vote from commissioners.

Now is the time to light up the phones guys and complain because the seasons are set next month and we cannot wait till October and wish we would of said something. We have to come up with a solution that is fair and reasonable.

    Carry on.................................

    • KDWPT Secretary Brad Loveless will establish 2021 deer season permit quotas for nonresident hunters. Commission and public input is encouraged and considered.

will be interesting to see what he does, hopefully something way less than a 97% chance of drawing a tag.

DUCK, MERGANSER, AND COOT SEASONS Staff recommends adopting a 96-day season in the High Plains unit and 74-day season in the Low Plains Zones (See figure 1 for the Kansas Duck Hunting Zone Map). Staff recommends adopting Federal Frameworks for daily bag limit, possession limit and shooting hours and option A for merganser limit. Staff recommends the following season dates.

    - High Plains Unit: Oct. 09 to Jan. 02 and Jan. 21 to Jan. 30 -

Low Plains Early Zone Oct. 09 to Dec. 05 and Dec. 18 to Jan. 02 -

Low Plains Late Zone Oct. 30 to Jan. 02 and Jan. 22 to Jan. 30 -

Low Plains Southeast Zone Nov. 06 to Jan. 02 and Jan. 15 to Jan. 30 (most likely will change)

    TEAL

High Plains Unit Sep. 18 to Sep. 26

    - Low Plains Zones Sep. 11 to Sep. 26

Knowing commissioner Rider, he will opt for Nov 13 start to probably Jan 9th and back open the 15th to 30th. Just guessing, but he has changed it every year and has the votes to do it again.

C'mon guys, please take the time and call in. Voice your concerns. It's easy to put off and worry about next season later. Don't leave it up to someone else to speak up for you.

These last several years have been brutal. Last year was off the charts. All we're asking for is something to alleviate the NR pressure and overtaking of public lands.

It doesn't have to be this way. Nobody should be "fine" with witnessing the deterioration of our hunting opportunities and quality. Quite honestly, nobody should be okay with having our ducks and geese harassed from sunrise to sunset on every acre of huntable waterfowl habitat, with 75% of that harassment coming from NR hunters.
