You guys are lucky. We have to deal with varying depths and tidal flows. It's damn near impossible to have our decoys pre rigged. I keep my longlines on a spool and drop anchor on shore or next to the anchored layout boat. Back the boat out while clipping on the decoys. then drop another anchor at the end of the line. Easy to do with practice but pre rigged would be a LOT easier.

When I was a kid we drew a blind up on the Mississippi. We didn't know chit about hunting the big river then and we drew a blind on a back channel. We filled it with decoys....decoys that we had spent a couple months getting ready....15 foot line and some long lines out into the channel with piano weights on both ends. It looked awesome and we were as happy as we'd ever been. We'd pooled all of our decoys together....which was about 250 at that time and age for us, and we figured we had arrived.

A week before the season came a gully washer.....and when we went to make our final preparations.....we had NO decoys. :yes

We had most definitely not arrived. :l:l:l

i have 150’ and 100’ lines and depends on where I’m hunting. I hunt tidal and know my depths and tidal range. I tie a knot on each end of my longlines. On my 100’ lines I tie a simple knot 15’ from each end so I know when my first or last decoy gets clipped on so they aren’t nose diving. On my 150’ lines I have my knots tied about 35’ from the ends. I’ve found it nicer to go with heavy (400lb) 36” long mono crimped on for your drops, way less hassle. I set my lines up differently depending on who I’m hunting with. Some guys don’t mind the extra work of putting in slotted bags when picking up. Some guys don’t like the slot bag way and clip each decoy on and off while laying out and picking up, the knots really help using this method. If you have the patience to use slot bags it makes deployment easy and quick. I lay my lines out on the grass and clip them on the line at measured distances so I know they won’t tangle. I then toss end clip in the first slot and start feeding line in when it gets to the drop stuff the drop in and shove decoy in on top, then do the same down the same side then up the other side. When I get to my last decoy I clip the end of the line on the side of the bag and feed the line into the slot and then last decoy. When deploying its quick and easy. Pull the decoy out that has the clip on the side of the slot. I use 2 sash weights (single sash weights will roll) that I have rigged together with zip ties. Clip the weights on and toss em over, then grab the decoys by the heads and feed them out by simply tossing them over.
