What is the seedy stalk in the center of the picture?
It turns a rusty red color when it matures.
First one looks like a sedge and second one maybe a type of dock. Both are good food,but both usually somewhat sparse and not abundant enough to be the main food source. At least over here on this side!
I just looked them up and that is them for sure.
The sedge is something I've never seen in this area and there isn't a whole lot of it yet.
The area is pretty much choked out with Tule and Cattail although the Dock has been there for years and there is so much of it and it covers ponds in the marsh with a layer of red seed when it drops off the stalks.
