Take your $100 and buy these...

Elijah Craig. It's like the quintessential bourbon.

Larceny, because it's a readily available wheated bourbon.

Old grand dad because it's a high rye mashbill and should keep you under the $100.

Now you have the three main types of mashbills for bourbon. Figure out which one you like best and you can pick up some others with similar mashbills.

Here is what is currently hanging around the house. Not a often bourbon drinker so this is just leftovers.

Left to right. This is something that a buddy was drinking at a party at my house one night. He left what was leftover so might give you an idea on its quality. Something from Vegas. I would have never bought it.

Rowan's creek. Strong stuff. Definitely not mild or smooth or anything bordering on "scotch-like."

Some kind of special wild turkey. It is fine.

B.lanton's. Lots of people like it. I don't mind it but it is kind of "grassy-tasting" for my likes.

Elijah Craig. Good budget bourbon in my opinion.

If you want to tame it some add a small splash of really clean water or one or two cubes of good clean ice.

I live in KY so this stuff is not hard to find. Most any decent sized liquor store has a good selection and prices are fair.

With so many replies and choices my pockets just aren't deep enough to run out and purchase all of the recommendations so to start off I picked up a 750ml bottle of Larceny Small Batch 92 today for $30.44 OTD and so far I have had two shots neat.

As was to be expected the flavor is 100% completely different from scotch.....not necessarily bad just different.

I'll need to drink some more before I can determine if bourbon suits me or not......thanks again fellas.

I suggest starting with Michter's American Whiskey. It's technically not a bourbon cause it's not aged in new barrels, but it still has a proper bourbon mash.

I love whiskey but I prefer Canadian whiskey over bourbon. Might be worth a try. Pendleton and crown are both good but there is better if you want to pull out the wallet. I like makers mark for bourbon.

I like scotch a lot but for some reason it gives me some nasty heartburn every time.

I've been strictly a scotch drinker for many years before that I dabbled in rum & coke, Jack Black and Wild Turkey 101 but now I want to give bourbon a try.

I'm not wanting a bourbon that is harsh and burns all the way down and from what little Googling I've done it looks like a wheated bourbon is what I'm looking for.

Below is a list of what I think might suit me but I'm open to suggestions......I'd like to stay under $100.00 and I have no idea yet if any of these are available locally or hard to obtain.

Makers 46
W.L. Weller Special Reserve
Woodford Reserve
Eagle Rare
Larceny Small Batch

Get me headed in the right direction fellas......Thanks.

I have over 300-400 bottles or bourbon, rye, and whiskey.
As a first time bourbon or rye drinker, I would stay with these two. They are always consistent and are 90 proof.

Sazerac rye. Will be around $35
Eagle Rare. Should be under $50.

There are several great bourbons and ryes out there. I typically stay around 110+ proof as I drink it neat.
