I grew up in Tennessee drinking bourbon for my dark liquor choice. Then got on a single malt scotch kick for decades. I have been back to bourbon for probably 10 years now. I have had many of the bourbons mentioned on this thread in my liquor cabinet. I like wheated bourbons and my go-to drinker is Maker's Mark. I also like Basil Haydens a lot. Rounding out my frequently purchased list is Bulleit and Elijah Craig.

Larceny has become my go-to due to difficulty finding any Buffalo Trace products (Weller) in my area. $30/bottle and smooth enough to drink neat.

I have over 300-400 bottles or bourbon, rye, and whiskey.
As a first time bourbon or rye drinker, I would stay with these two. They are always consistent and are 90 proof.

Sazerac rye. Will be around $35
Eagle Rare. Should be under $50.

There are several great bourbons and ryes out there. I typically stay around 110+ proof as I drink it neat.

You can't tease us with a post like this without photos of your bar.

Basil Haydens, if your scotch favorites were spey side you'll enjoy it. Easy drinker especially paired with food. No real heat but plenty of flavor. A bit more flavorful is 4 roses single barrel. Only four roses I really like.

I started with Basil Haydens. I have tried many of the others but always find myself going back there. I have recently picked up the habit of making old fashioned's using Papa's Pilar Rum. Now that's some good stuff.

With so many replies and choices my pockets just aren't deep enough to run out and purchase all of the recommendations so to start off I picked up a 750ml bottle of Larceny Small Batch 92 today for $30.44 OTD and so far I have had two shots neat.

As was to be expected the flavor is 100% completely different from scotch.....not necessarily bad just different.

I'll need to drink some more before I can determine if bourbon suits me or not......thanks again fellas.

Some bourbons drink better with half an ice cube or just a drop of water to open up the char (like an Islay Scotch). Some taste better if you swallow each sip faster or slower. I know Knob Creek was better with a little ice, but Wild Turkey stuff like Russell’s 10 was better neat.
