Did a batch of beaver salami this weekend, turns out "you wood be surprised" it pretty much taste just like the duck and deer salami we make! Used Excaliber's BBQ seasoning and some high temp pepperjack cheese. 17# of beaver and 8# of pork.

Neither do I, but I guarantee they weren’t cheaper than making from scratch. And “cheap” was the watchword during the depression.
Whatever Bill as I don't like biscuits other than w/sausage gravy. I throw mine away when I get one-HATE breakfast biscuit sandwiches I prefer croissant or bagel breakfast sandwiches! ;) :l

Just what came to mind thinking about the depression. If anything, based mostly on what I experienced around some old folks, they often loved little luxuries most of us take for granted. I could see canned biscuits fitting in there.

I'm sure folks during the depression, according to my great grand parents and a couple of grand parents, didn't waste anything. They ate what was available. Most served vegetables grown in the gardens and meat was a luxury. My grandma Jesse said she ate so much game meat by the time I was bringing some home she had no taste for it. She would cook it but wouldn't eat it. So after hearing all those stories I try everything. One of the better things I've eaten was oven baked opossum. I reckon if we go into another depression before my time is through, we'll be alright around here.

Cajun boil.

Shrimp, mussels, crab legs, andouille sausage, potatoes, corn in an Old Bay seasoning pot of water. Melted butter on the side. Shotgun in the background. Knocked down about 15 starlings in 3 shots last night with it.
