37 and raining sideways. I refuse to duck hunt in weather that's similar to that forecast.
20 and snowing, no biggie.

Single digits and sitting still is no fun. If we have a heater in the boat or blind and can move around it's not terrible.

I have more trouble with gear when it gets cold than anything else. Boat especially. And your hands are cold or in gloves so you don't have the dexterity to fix stuff.

lots of variables, but the biggest factors are actual temp and windchill for me. I usually consider the "feels like" temp of 20F or below cold for me. That takes into consideration the windchill. Ive hunted way colder and been fine and ive also hunted way warmer and was "freezing".

Crazy cold (negative) air temps with no wind is a piece of cake.
I've never seen a temp that wasn't bearable.
Add even a slight breeze and it's a totally different story.

I hunted the last day of duck season in 1985 with -17 temps and -54 wind chill with 8" of snow on the ground. We were hunting off the bank of a river with no blind or source of heat. I ended up with frostbite on my left ear and big toe on right foot. We hunted from LST to about 4 in the afternoon. I don't ever want to do that again and won't.
As I get older, I find myself less tolerant of cold weather.

Last season, I stumbled and fell in belly button-deep water that had an inch of ice. The temp was in the low 30’s. I was back in the buck brush and it did not hold me up as I went down. Was wet up to my neck and had to go back in to get my gun that had slipped off my shoulder. Was double-dipped, which added insult to injury. When my 16 YO peered around a cypress tree and started laughing, I told him his day would come. Ducks were flying so I lasted another couple of hours or so and then had to call it since I had stopped feeling much below my waist.

All of my life, my late Dad was fond of saying, “If you’re not wet and not cold, you’re not duck hunting.” He was the definition of “old school.”

I have recently been doing cryotherapy sessions multiple times a week for a medial issue. In cryotherapy, you stand in a rectangular chamber in slippers, wool gloves, and your underwear, with your head sticking out of an opening at the top. They then release nitrogen gas into the chamber and maintain temperatures of -130 to -200 degrees F for three minutes. I went down to -165 F last week but usually stay at -130 F. When I get out, my legs and underwear are covered in frost. That’s mighty cold, too.
