Bethel, AK has warmed a bit. It was around 12 degrees a few days ago. Forecasted to get some snow today. These populations are at 600K for a reason. They time their migration well. Expect a big push to the Basin in the next week. Then most will all be gone by Derby Day!!

I'm "kina" thinking Mark that Mother nature might have a built in safety net.....have every group migrate and nest at the same time could possibly end up in a weather disaster for the young and the adults...spreading things out could be a built in strategy I can see the benefits of.

I think they put the pedal down going back but pretty remarkable they get there and nest by Mid May and are back by early October, even if they leave by April 15th it is at best a 6 month turn around.

According to our Governor these late birds must either be recovering from covid or waiting for their vaccine before they will be allowed on the breeding grounds.

Not sure about the specks....The spring snow goose hunts in Canada are usually best in May....Last few days I been seeing Sandhill Cranes heading back north.
