The looking like water my be causing bird mortality. There are a number of articles about solar farms and waterfowl. Don’t know if it is a big issue or not.
With the type that use mirrors to focus the sun’s energy on a tower the birds get incinerated mid flight.

There is one of those down the road a bit in Ivanpah..at least that type spins a turbine instead of using photovoltaic panels that will all wear out soon. Seems to make a bit more sense despite the birds getting toasted.

Fogie, all that land being covered up is not the whole point, it is the monumental waste of money that is then problem. China could give us the solar panels for free and it would still cost us, installation of them and the grid connections are still there and we would still have to build enough fossil fuel or nuclear to replace every bit of the power produced. Wind and solar do not produce 24/7, so why build up these systems far from the need and have all that cost when we could maximize our use of coal, gas and nuke, which would let this country grow instead of cutting back on our power use.
This current direction is leading to ruin.
Yeah, it‘s some stupid stuff indeed.

Per acre, solar farms are useless for wildlife. At least corn provides food, thermal cover and bedding cover. As to forests and meadows, I don’t own the forest. There’s a big opening on top of the hill behind my house, but I don’t own the hill.
You gotta figure out how to make the lake catch solar energy for you. Liquid solar panels. Science.

Better hurry if you want an overseas import EV before some more catch fire on a ship. A splash of saltwater is all it takes apparently.

Reasonable move by one shipping company in my mind.

With the ship having sunk, the cause of the fire will likely remain a mystery, but the EVs carried onboard are suspected to have contributed to the ferocity of the blaze.
