I did not range anything. I suspect the shortest bird was around 175 to 200. The flyer was probably 225 or so. I think the long mark was probably 300 to 350. Distance combined with the terrain was the biggest factor on the long mark. It was not a retired gun, but the dogs lost sight of it for a good distance in route.

This was much more difficult than the first series in most Q's. A large entry of very good dogs and handlers, the judges had to make it challenging to find a winner.
The next three tests did not get any easier.

I like the look of that series. A large entry makes it tough on judges. Need something which provides some separation, but the time needed to run a big triple makes for a long day for everyone.

Q is my favorite level out of all hunt test and field trial levels. A decent amateur with a solid dog can play, and the best performance is rewarded accordingly. Wonder what entries would be like if there were a title associated?

Large and this one would've been larger. There were some thing like 27 scratches from the trial. A well-known amateur Field trailer passed away suddenly, and his week was this weekend.
There is sort of a title earned in a Q. If you place first or second in to Q's indoor place in a knowledge stake you can get the "QA2" designation. You have to pay the AKC $25 for it. I won't pay for a title, so my dog doesn't have it.

when I got my dog I had no intention of running tests and knew nothing about them. I got involved with the local HRC club and tested thru the seasoned level. It gave us specific goals for our training and produced a dog that was more than capable of doing the work where we hunt. Was a really great experience.

......I think I met you at your first test.

I did the HRC tests for a few years, but my dogs are now 10, and 13. I made some good friends, and still show up to a few training days, but I won't run another test until I have a new pup.

I barbecued for the judges for the Grand last year, and for our club's big hunt test the last several years.

For the QA2 title, the dog has to place first or second in a Q twice not just once.
(Or twice placed 1st– 4th or awarded a JAM in an open all-age, limited all-age,
special all-age, restricted all-age, amateur all-age, O/H amateur all-age)

I've thought about doing a couple hunt tests if there are any close by when I get my pup, just as a training aid more than anything. I don't really have any plans of getting him titied, but it might be fun to have a little competition in training. Have no plans of traveling anywhere for them.

I may be reading this incorrectly and if so, my bad. You're not planning on "maybe" running a junior test "if it's close by" without training for it with a club 1st are you? Only ask because about every dog I've seen run a junior the 1st time without training for it in a similar enviornment has blown up and it's sad to watch.
