Why are these school shooters drawn to AR's? Granted it's tactical advantage over other platforms in urban combat is apparent, but why would it be advantageous on the softest of targets?

Are these shooters intent on shooting up school children, or are they intent on shooting up school children.... with an AR -15?

I never see this question asked, yet it's implied by the media and the left, that the AR-15 possesses some unique firepower that allows it to be extra deadly in a school shooting, when every duck hunter on this board knows an 870 would be equally as devastating in a school room. Yet almost without fail, they use an AR. Is their mere existence a drawing force for these whackos? If they were magically banned and disappeared, would school shootings stop? The firepower would still exist, albeit a different platform.

Obvious leftist political agendas aside (they ultimately want to ban all guns), I never see this discussed anywhere, but it seems extremely relevant to the school shooting discussion.

Couple of reasons, it's what they hear about on the news so they think they are extra deadly. If you are in a situation where you are going for mass casualties, number of bullets matter, and the AR platform allows you to carry a large number of bullets easily.

Remember several years ago the rifle of choice for these A-holes was the AK?

Sounds as if the mental nut job shooter had training using various guns. So she may have become comfortable with the AR-15.

@bsktball55 brings up some reasons why an AR-15 over a semi-auto shotgun.

Before shooting, Audrey Hale repeatedly trained at local gun ranges

People say the magazine capacity of the AR-15 is the problem. How long does it take to dump a 30 round mag?

What’s the pellet capacity of a 3 inch shotgun shell loaded with number 4 Buck? That’s a hornets nest going down a hallway at an elementary or high school.

IMO

Pretty sure a guy walked into a miami bar with a shotgun and they proved it did the most damage they had ever seen in a mass shooting. I was pretty worried shotguns were going to be next for left to go after. Might make shooting ducks kind of challenging.

It'll probably be scoped rifles to prevent sniper attacks.

I would be willing to bet that many people do not know the devastating effect that a shotgun can have loaded with buckshot. Add that to the fact that people don't understand that you can have magazine extensions that allow for more than 3 shells in a shotgun. The AR does allow much faster reloads and it's what they see in the news and they know it is a military rifle so it must be more deadly.
