Why is the mallard the coveted bird of choice?

    I target mallards for the majority of the season. I enjoy doing so because they are big tasty birds that are challenging to hunt. I like hunting the types of habitat that they prefer. I like working mallards on the call. I like how every hunt is different and you have to adjust to the birds. I like dialing in my equipment or strategies. I like duck hunting. But I love hunting mallards. I get much more satisfaction out of a hunt if I can challenge myself and do everything right to kill a pile of green heads. Much more so then if I banged out a mixed bag limit by pass shooting.

    I like mallards but I should only shoot 5 according to CWA’s board of directors..

    I like them because they are big. I rank ducks by size. I'm not out to see the sunrise, I'm out to bring home duck meat.

    Actually.... I think that is pretty good..not many guys can sneak up on a duck and kill it sleeping !

    True enough. Especially when ducks can rest one side of their brain and see you with the eye on the "awake" side.
