If you do a search on Wisconsin wolf hunt you'll see all kinds of horror stories. Articles written from every corner of the country. Almost all the stories are BIAS against hunting of wolfs.

Crazy biased people won't change their mind, so no sense trying. There are also a lot of people that don't hunt that spend little time thinking about hunting. Responsible hunters should do everything in their power to not give those people a reason to dislike hunting. A person thumping their chest about SSS will drive those people to the wrong side of the argument.

Wolf hunters must be really good or there are a lot of wolves across WI.

The media ignores that the harvest was close to the overall harvest target since the tribes didn't use any tags.

From what I am hearing from a friend of mine that participated in the hunt allot of the more successful hunters were big groups running them with hounds. The group he hunted with had 30 guys and about 20 hounds. They got 8 wolves. Sounded pretty cool to me. Actually wish I would have just tagged along for the experience.

What kind of hounds do they use to run the wolves? I know the bear houndsmen have issues with the wolves when running bear but I'm curious if they can use the same hounds just change tactics when targeting wolves?

They just target singles and sometimes pairs. Bear dogs get taken out because they’re not looking for a wolf. Often it’s older cold track dogs or pups that don’t keep up to the pack.

Often younger adolescent males are cut from the pack.
Most the guys running dogs hunt those.
They cut a single, smaller track and get after that trail.

Bear dogs, so I'm told, would not fare well against the pack.
But against singles they do well.

    Again, so I'm told.:tu
