It was our extended goose season until the 15th. I inventoried my components and stumbled upon some RSI HW13 #4's and #6's that I forgot I had. With all this talk lately about duplexing steel and tungsten it had me curious about trying it. I found a couple of recipes in the RSI reloaders guide.

I loaded 10 shells with 1 3/8 oz of 300grs of #2 steel and 300grs of HW #4's. They worked fine but I didn't care for the recoil.
I also loaded a few 2x6 loads. 300grs of #2 steel and 247grs of HW #6's. A nice 1 1/4oz load of pure death. I call it the 2x6 GKMF. With a 195 pellet count it works really well.
Yes I'm sure TSS would work better. But I figured I better use up this HW13 before it spoils ;)

Below is how those 3 shot types and sizes compare to each other in KPY Shotshell Ballistics.
1450 fps #6 12g/cc shot gets 2.50" of gel penetration at 29.1 yards.
1450 fps #4 12g/cc shot gets 2.50" of gel penetration at 50.5 yards.
1450 fps steel #2 shot gets 2.50" of gel penetration at 17.9 yards.

1.25oz of hw13 4’s in the 12 kills geese nicely.
I did load some shells with a 1.25oz of the HW13 #4's. They hit geese hard and did a good job.

I'm trying to stretch out the HW shot I have on hand further with a duplex/multiplex load. I shouldn't be a tightwad but the replacement cost is astronomical compared to what I paid about ten years ago.

When it warms up I'll see what it looks like on paper.

Thanks for the stats!

That correct Doug but no #6’s as of last week.
