Sitting in the town of Sumner, this 43 year old sculpture with a 62 ft wingspan is in need of repairs. Created by an artist named David Jackson for the town in the 70's when there was an impressive amount of these birds around, it's now seeing a fund raising effort by 3 of his daughters as a tribute to him and as an identity aspect for this community that even throws a wild goose festival in October.
There is also a call making contest and entries will be auctioned off to raise funds.
I've not seen this bird but it looks impressive and I'd want to do what sounds like many have and that's have my picture taken with it.

Hopefully they will hit their goal. The problem is, the goose numbers are not there anymore, so the hunter traffic is not as heavy, so I'm sure that will hurt the fund raising efforts.

Now that is something waterfowlers should get behind!!! I have seen the goose and many many years ago dreamed of a trip to the area to shoot what was once the elusive Canada Goose. I intend to donate a little something.

    Thanks for sharing Tom(Hunting1)!!!!

I remember going to Swan lake as a kid. Lots of geese…….smart geese. They knew where the blinds were. I remember the big goose from when I was a kid and somewhere around here is a picture of my kids in front of the goose. I will look into donating.

Is the Sportsman open in Sumner? Like to stop for lunch if in the area.

I believe it is, and there's also a little restaurant that opened a couple years ago, just south of the Sportsman
