Absolutely correct AB, similar to most cane style calls(D. Bordelon and some Haydel’s).
Addiction Calls Duck Calls
We had a donor for a DU banquet give us a box of CUM DUC calls
They had a price marked $2.19 There was no way to make them sound ducky.
The best sounds sounded like cartoon duck sounds, I shipped some calls to a collector on this forum a few years back !
I have a Flextone…definitely not the worst. I can kill ducks with it.
Kicks kind of hard.
Challenge accepted. Call is super light with that skinny reed. If I cared I would take some time to tune it and make a better file…but it’s good enough for pothole killin. There is no worst duck call. The best Main Street hail call I ever heard was done by Corbin Wadlow on a call that I couldn’t get five notes out of. Call wasn’t bad, it was my operation of it. This is a far cry from that in terms of call capability…but the same principle applies. Someone, somewhere is turning greenheads with a call that someone else thinks is junk.
The worst…. The custom call I ordered from Gaston that never got done, lost my order, forgot about it, or lost my contact info. Might of been the best duck call too….but I’ll never know.
Duck Season Somewhere podcast had Mr Art Lejeune on a few months back. Great listen so I stopped in the next time I was in Lake Charles. Great visit. Pretty interesting guy. He had some new calls he had just made, out of walnut if I remember right. Signed it and gave it to me for free. Had a box of 20 or so and this one blew the best but didn’t sound to good at the shop.
Got home and played w air presentation and got it right. @Sunklands you are correct. A lot of the old cane or Cajun calls don’t take much air at all. And this one, I swear I’m just using straight air, not from my diaphragm. I’ve blown a few cane calls like that before too. This is the duckiest call I’ve ever blown. It don’t do nothing fancy but sure sounds like that old summer mallard flying around the marsh.
So it sounds like the worst sounding summer mallard?
(Messin' with your choice of threads to give props in. But I have heard more than a few of both sweet and sorry sounding mottleds.)
