I dont hunt big game.... I borrowed my buddies thingamajig to measure out my yard so I can figure how far away the bumpers are from me when I am working with my pooch. Additionally I wanted to make sure what 40 yards and 30 looked like...
Thats a LONG way away for me. I want birds closer than that. 40 yards looks like a football field to me in terms of hunting..... :l:l:l and 40 yards is NOT in the decoys. That is a mile away from the hole... :no

40 yards is a lot further than most people think. A crossing bird at 40 yards requires a 12 foot lead. It's doable but it takes practice to make that shot consistently (at least 2 out of 3).

I try to wait and take the shots I'm comfortable with and a 40 yard crosser is not one of them.

40 yard crosser in the bay is pretty normal. I want them closer too...but I’ll take them further.

Gives the dog plenty of exercise.

A slough needs to be a narrow one for me to setup and shoot crossers in :l

    40 is way out there.
