So don't forget to get some extra shells by tomorrow night when the stores close. With opener being Saturday and Friday being Christmas you better act now or you might not have enough for the North zone opener on Saturday. I heard there are several parties camping out at KANKAKEE hoping for a good draw on Saturday morning. According to the Indiana DNR waterfowl counts KANKAKEE is the place to be on opener.
Probably be 120 plus parties, and no open water except what the birds are using. I think I'll sit this one out. Greg
When Tri-County went to the draw system there was no need to camp overnight. Party #1 doesn’t mean they get the #1 draw if they use a computer drawing system! You could be the last party & get the #1 draw!
When we drew at the Mobile home trailer on 39,had to have 3 to draw. Still remember the guy who would hold the coffee can "take one disc, one disc only". Been more than once the last party didn't get a chip because someone pulled two and kept it. Last 2-3 days of the season they opened up the refuges for hunting, put you on a hay wagon and dropped you off along the road wherever you yelled to stop, closest I'll ever get to a timber hunt I guess. But they also held birds back then. Greg
It wasn't a coffee can it was a can similar to a countertop canister, it was dirty white in color with a flower pattern. That can is still at KANKAKEE in the office. Some folks would bend the chip of a good number choice so Glen the manager would change out the chip with a new blank one that he would bend, just for laughs.
Yes I remember the days when the number you drew out the can had blind numbers like 6S or 9N. And everyone drove in on the Kankakee side because the yellow river levey wasnt done. All boats were on the first cross levy for whole front unit. And there were 5 blinds on the south side of the yellow river
No I don’t believe I’ve ever done that, Steve. But then again I hadn’t hunted The Kank until 2006, we always went to TriCounty- remember the Bingo balls?
