Just got a Beretta A400 Xtreme Plus 12ga. 28"barrel. What chokes are you guys using in this gun? I don't shoot over 35yds. Maybe an occasional cripple shot before we take the boat out to get the bird. OR are the factory chokes good? I will pattern the chokes with different loads in the off season. I'm just trying to get ahead of the game. Thanks for any and all opinions.

The factory modified is very good. I now shoot a Muller passing but they are both very good in it. 40 and under on big ducks.

With steel, the modified will suit you well and with Bismuth the Improved Modified will be the one to shoot. The Factory Chokes are very good and you will be hard pressed to get a aftermarket to shoot better. Save your money.

this is my first season shooting my A400 and I've shot the factory modified choke for ducks and geese all year without a single complaint.

Carlson's Delta Waterfowl, Improved Modified, and Long Range. Made with 455 Carpenter Steel. Won't bulge with Beretta's HP thin wall choke design.

IC or a light modified. Modified little to tight when ducks work in tight.

The factory tubes will serve you well. If you don’t shoot anything past 35 yards, the factory IC it LM tube would be optimal. The factory Mod for anything over 35 yards.

If you want something for long range 50 yard shots, (as mentioned) the Delta Waterfowl LR tube is a great option. Quality tube from a company with a great warranty, and it won’t cost $150 like some other tubes.

You did not mention what loads you plan to shoot. I finally got serious this year and patterned my 20 ga I have committed to. While I was at it I patterned my preferred 12ga load which was an 1 1/8 #3's @1390fps. I had always used the factory IC choke and it did well. On paper it was only fair and the factory mod was much better. 12ga Maxus II. Now for the interesting, but well known findings on my 20ga. The slower the speed, the better the pattern. Dramatically. My 20 is an SX3 so it has Invector + tubes. 7/8oz #3's @1550FPS with either the factory IC or mod threw a pitiful pattern. I lucked in to trying a Carlson Bismuth Bone Crusher on their recommendation and the pattern at 40 yds with the 1550fps is very acceptable. Even better with 4's @1550 with the additional pellet count. The 1oz #4 @1350 is basically a wall of death with the same choke. That is of course if I do my job. If you truly shoot 35 yards shots do yourself a favor and don't shoot anything over 1400fps. It will be more than enough and will probably still crush at 45. Many will disagree, but put it on paper and make your own decision.
