Ok, his sister is a desk lady at Sportsman's Lodge. This is a nice resort set up more like a hotel, but has a bar and restaurant.

She is a bartender/waitress at Cyrus which is more of individual cabin style lodge/resort.

He thought in June you may still find some availability at both. Hope this helps.

Just got back from Wheeler's Point. Fourth year going icefishing. They would be another place to check. Also Zippel Bay, which is five miles or so east. The northwest angle resorts look nice, however you have to go through Manitoba to get there. Sportsmans and Zippel Bay have pools, seem to be more family oriented, some of the other resorts, you are going to fish, not swim in a pool.... Sportsman's does have the best food out of everyplace we went to eat. Most of the resorts have a bar and a restaurant, some nice, some not so much..... We stayed at the walleye retreat one year, wouldn't go back.

Depends what you are looking for. I worked on Rainy Lake one summer for natural resources, and know the lake pretty well. Great fishing on the CDN side, not so much on the American side. Same thing with LOTW(I grew up in Kenora). Are you wanting to drive into a camp, or boat to a more remote area. One nice remote area is Spruce Island camps (great duck hunting in that area in the fall...hint, hint). If you are on the Big Traverse, you can get blown off that end of the lake depending on the wind, so plan carefully.

NW angle on lotw. You can stay on main land or boat to an island resort from the boat launch. US and Canadian side are both good that time of year. Flag island or jakes are great options. Plenty of other great ones too.

There can be good fishing on the south side of the lake but much less scenic and WAY more pressure.

Rainy is great too but a little tricky as a first timer. Hire a guide the first day and fish on your own the rest. Like bang said, Canadian side.

Easy drive in areas on east side of lake up to Sioux Narrows. With the value of the US dollar vs CDN dollar right now, best bang for your buck would be to stay in Canada.

I live in Warroad MN which is on LOTW. Can't say much about Rainy but can say June on LOTW can be fantastic fishing. It's big diverse lake. You didn't mention if you have a boat or what your plans are with that.

Muskeg bay on the SW side is a big bowl with great fishing. Gets a lot of pressure in June and not many resorts. Springsteel Island is about it other than motels in Warroad. Around Baudette is the most resorts. NW Angle would be my choice for a vacation and the fishing is more diverse. Musky and smallies around the islands. Definitely more scenic. Remember you have to go into Canada to get the NW Angle so have a clean record. It is also about 50 miles on gravel road.

Great stuff on the Canadian side, especially in Ontario. Not much in Manitoba other than Buffalo Bay. In Canada you'll have to pinch the barbs on your hooks.
