Sadly, I believe the future is bleak. All the things aforementioned on this forum but certainly other negative influences. I believe that a man having a permanent blind on public waters will be outlawed within the next 10 yrs. The seasons/limits will be shorten. Hunting will be limited to the northern states.( Not to debate the reason) we've already done that! The number of decoys you can have will be limited. The cost of Lic and stamps will really go up. The number of shells you can posses will be limited. I could see a time where you might have to report where you hunt the morning before you go. Some changes will be good some not so good. Of course, if the wrong people get in charge, there may not be a hunting season. Interesting to read your thoughts

Ive always said i wish the duck stamp would go up to 250 bucks. Its selfish but would weed out the people on public land that go just cause its cool and they saw duck dynasty. The ones that have no respect for other hunters basically. Also would put a damper on every fields with a water structure from being flooded and a pit leased in it. But as far as some of those changes you mentioned it would be a stretch for the govt to put those restrictions out there for the fact that people would get fed up and not hunt period and a lot of revenue would be lost. I do think some changes are coming as far as what i dont know i just hope its for the better of the sport and this great state that we call home.

My last full hunting seasons were in the late 90's . Hunting primarily public spots and a few invites to hunt leases a few times a year. After that I bounced around for my career and made a hunt or two per year. I've been back in South East Louisiana for 4 years. I hadn't hunted since moving back. Been more involved with offshore fishing and running the kids around. Last winter my oldest (7) started asking about going hunting. I told him we'd go this year (2018). Season snuck up on me because we had soccer and basketball going on at the same time. Didn't get a chance to do much scouting. Figured on opening day we would have no problem getting a few ……. boy was I wrong! Have now made 7 hunts. Have killed 1 duck. Not kidding.

I only have an offshore boat and would need a small boat to allow getting to and exploring several different areas to hunt. I've been borrowing a boat and hitching rides this year. It's really limited where/when I have been able to hunt and no doubt has contributing to me not killing anything. To keep taking my older son and get my younger son hunting as well next year I'd need to get a boat. On one hand I fell in love again with hunting, on the other hand it's hard to justify the possible expenses of a boat to keep hunting.

All that to say my outlook on future seasons is bleak. It's not just that I'm not killing ducks ……. but not seeing any flying around. Not on drives to/from work like all those years ago, not riding around WMA fishing, not on the back of my family's small piece of property, not from friends leases, etc. In my opinion for whatever reason the migration has completely changed. In other words they ain't coming here no more.

The future is indeed bleak. It will only get worse as there will be fewer and fewer ducks imprinted to migrate further south than the northern states. There could be easy solutions but government will not allow them. Instead of wasting money counting ducks how about spending the same money to pen raise ducks throughout the state. Raising ducks in mass production is no different than raising the thousands of chickens that are trucked from louisiana to Arkansas to be slaughtered. You want ducks? Let them be raised in the state of Louisiana for the state of Louisiana. Of course it would be regulated to death just like pen raised deer.

Best hope is that "climate change" changes to more traditional patterns of the 20th century, we turn the tide on coastal restoration AND ethanol goes tje way of the dodo bird.

Best chance we have is to add one amendment to the treaty. ANY UNNATURALLY FLOODED UNHARVESTED GRAIN CROP IS DEEMED BAITED, THEREBY OFF LIMITS TO WATERFOWL HUNTING.
