It’s always amazing how fast summer seems to slip away. They started cutting some of the cereal grain crops around my house this weekend. Saw a couple family groups on alfalfa Sunday. This morning driving along the Fox River to work and small family groups were in the fresh cut alfalfa. Saw a few small groups flying around work and a few stopped off at the pond. Seems like the majority of the YOY are starting to fly.

Next cool down with a light north wind is when I start getting mental . Ya just feel it.

For me it’s that first flock of bluewings. Whether it’s an August evening fishing on the boat or walking the dog on a dewy morning. The rush as they fly past and the powder blue patches flashing as they bank around. That gets the blood pumping

Flashing blue patches get your blood pumping you say?

Been a long summer, really haven’t done much fishing. Last few days been getting the garage organized, cleaning up some decoys, and today I went and patterned a bunch of shells. We’ve finally made it to August

Yeah it’s been awhile since I’ve hit the patterning board. Seems like every manufacturer has “new” recipes now so figured it was time to refresh my inventory. I don’t remember it being so difficult for getting a pattern to open up at 20 yards. Take a look at these DryLok #3’s. That’s thru a Rem IC choke at about 20-22 yards. That’s a 193 pellets and I would bet the bulk are in about a 12-15” circle.

You’d cut em in half and they wouldn’t go 20.

Patterned Federal Black cloud close range #4s 3" 20ga. last week through a skeet 1 tube.
Beautiful even spending at 20 -30 yards
Perfect for my teal and early season woodie spot.
I'm glad that I bought 2 cases when they were on sale for $9/box
