I've heard no one say it was his/her fault.

I've heard plenty say the controller was left to do the roles of 2 people that night, which was likely a factor.

If flight rules are a 200ft. ceiling and she's above it.....it's her fault.

200 ft. is apparently a long standing ceiling for helicopters in that area.

Was replying to this ^

I think both could be right. Nobody was complaining, specifically, about the ATC at Reagan. The comments you hear are understaffing in general across the country....so, yeah, I suppose it could be a contributing factor....once the report is in. BUT, the crash doesn't happen if the pilot doesn't violate the fight rules, that's why they are there.....that's a pretty hard landing.

Tell that to Ruination.

I've heard several times that the ATC was doing the role of 2 people that night. True or not, IDK.

There's a bunch of stuff going on with this one. The plane in question being re-routed. The Blackhawk violating 200ft. Supposedly confirming visual with the wrong aircraft, etc.

The podcast I listened to suggested the Blackhawk should have been asked to hold when all that started to transpire.
If that didn't happen because the ATC should have been two (like has been claimed) and simply had too much on his/her plate in that moment...

Yep....it's a crash, an accident....nothing is as it SHOULD be. :tu

There is literally nothing left but trying to prevent another.

The Blackhawk requested “visual separation” and it was approved by ATC. That’s not something typically initiated by a pilot but rather by ATC. I’m guessing that particular tower and the military had an agreement whereby the pilot could request visual separation and then the tower left separation up to them. That is not how it usually works in controlled airspace. I’ll be interested to see if more comes out on this.

I was literally replying to a comment of a post 'analysis' that's started with that.

Have they shared the black box?

Human error and complacency is a tale as old as time.

I go back to basics. A) WHY is a helicopter or any aircraft flying across a controlled active runway day or night, and around a very small congested confined airspace? Looks like a failed SOP to me.

It was a night time training run along an established route that followed the river.

My understanding is it's a way to transport "VIP"'s in the congested DC area.
